Although this may be straight out of a scene in Idiocracy, it is not a joke. Perhaps, because Seattle is at once one of the most liberal and uptight cities in the US (it may seem like a contradiction, but it really isn’t), and Seattlites sure do like their coffee, something like this was bound to come along to take advantage of the sex gap: Watch CBS News Videos Online It seems that a few of the bikini baristas in Everett, a blue-collar city a bit north of Seattle, got a bit carried away, and began offering “special deals” for some extra cash:

This business model has also emerged in downtown Seattle, where baristas claim to have increased their earnings five-fold with their new uniforms. In the following video, a woman betrays obvious hostility, while a man with his family pretends it’s “bad.” Some Indian tourists, on the other hand, seem perfectly happy with the concept, posing with the baristas for photos while sporting broad grins:

I think the appearance of these espresso stands is kind of funny, but it also dovetails with something that I’ve been predicting for a while: the emergence of prostitution as a more acceptable practice in a post-moral America. In the Former Soviet Union prostitution exploded during the economic crisis and suddenly the world was awash in Russian hookers. Could the same phenomenon occur in an America where economic opportunities for the young have largely evaporated and there is no longer a traditional sense of morality to prevent girls from resorting to selling themselves for the extra cash?
